The Eye Scene is a full-scope Optometry practice with a special interest in Children's Vision and Behavioural Optometry.

What is Behavioural Optometry?
Behavioural optometry recognises that vision is more complex that just “eyesight” or seeing 20/20 on the letter chart. An individual may have perfect eyesight, however poor visual skills could negatively impact their performance and/or behaviour.

Poor visual performance could manifest as losing one's place when reading, making errors when copying off the board or poor reading comprehension. Whereas poor visual behaviour could include avoiding reading, reduced attention or adopting poor posture for close-work.

Behavioural optometry is a philosophy guiding the treatment of visual problems with the ultimate goal of improving the affected performance or behaviour.

Children's Vision
While it is important for people of all ages, there is particular focus on school-aged children as this is when vision related issues can critically impact learning and easily go undetected.

Our behavioural eye examinations include assessment of visual skills such as eye movements/tracking, focusing ability and eye coordination/alignment. These skills are imperative to efficient, comfortable and sustained vision and therefore contribute to the ease of visual information processing.

How are visual dysfunctions managed?
Our Optometrists may recommend treatments including:
- advice on visual habits to prevent or reduce the development of visual problems
- prescription of spectacle lenses or prisms
- vision therapy to enhance and develop visual skills
